BIG WALK Six-Microphone Puzzle: Reliable Sound-Check Method

Number the six feeds, keep every test phrase identical, and let the seated listener identify one microphone at a time.

Direct solution

At the pale arch with red steps around 3400, 1230, seat one player in the remote listening chair and number the six microphones from left to right. One tester says the same short phrase at the same volume and distance into every unused microphone. The listener identifies the clearest or loudest current feed and signals its number with slow arm raises. Press that microphone control, remove it from the next comparison, and repeat. There is no universal fixed order: the current sound check is the answer.

Where to go

Look for the large pale dome or arch with a red lower band and red steps on the Yellow Tower route, approximately 3400, 1230. The six microphone stands share the main platform; the listening chair is separated far enough away that normal voice chat is unreliable.

Before starting

  • Bring at least two players.
  • Choose one short test phrase and one speaking distance before starting.
  • Number all six microphones in one shared direction.

    Find the red-and-white dome

Enter the pale arch at about 3400, 1230 and confirm six microphone stands plus a separated listening chair.

Both stations are visible within the same puzzle site.

  2. BIG WALK Six-Microphone Puzzle: Reliable Sound-Check Method — Seat the listener and name one tester

    2

Seat the listener and name one tester

Keep one player in the chair. Have one tester handle every spoken sample so voice and volume stay comparable.

Only one person is speaking into microphones.

  3. BIG WALK Six-Microphone Puzzle: Reliable Sound-Check Method — Number all six in one direction

    3

Number all six in one direction

From the tester side, call the microphones 1 through 6 from left to right and have the listener confirm that convention.

Both players point to the same physical microphone for each number.

  4. BIG WALK Six-Microphone Puzzle: Reliable Sound-Check Method — Run an identical sound check

    4

    Run an identical sound check

Stand the same distance away and say the same short phrase once into every unused microphone without changing volume.

Every candidate received one comparable sample.

  5. BIG WALK Six-Microphone Puzzle: Reliable Sound-Check Method — Signal and confirm one feed

    5

    Signal and confirm one feed

The listener chooses the clearest current feed and raises an arm slowly that many times. The tester repeats the number before pressing.

Both sides agree on one number before any input.

  6. BIG WALK Six-Microphone Puzzle: Reliable Sound-Check Method — Remove it and repeat

    6

    Remove it and repeat

Exclude the accepted microphone, retest the remaining feeds with the same phrase, and continue until the reward releases.

The puzzle gives completion feedback; silence means the next comparison is still pending.

Player-count plan

2 players

Use one player for each information or action side. The listener should stay seated while the same tester handles all six microphones.

3-12 players

Keep the two core roles unchanged. Extra players should spot, carry, or record the current sequence without creating a second caller.

Common mistakes

  • Changing words or volume between microphones.
  • Testing from different distances.
  • Letting two people speak at once.
  • Assuming a sequence copied from another lobby will work.

How to recover

  1. 1.Reset to microphone 1 and repeat the identical phrase.
  2. 2.Compare only the two uncertain feeds.
  3. 3.Have the listener repeat the number before anyone presses.
  4. 4.If the chair stops receiving, stand up and sit again before restarting the round.
